Students can be exempt from semester exams on the following basis:

0 absences – Exempt from all exams
1 absence – 4 exemptions
2 absences – 3 exemptions
3 absences – 2 exemptions
More than 3 absences – No exemptions

Students also need at least an 81 average in the class to qualify for the exemption.  AP students must take the AP Semester Exams.  (AP teachers have the option to give the semester exams early.)  Absences, whether excused or unexcused, affect the incentive program for semester exams.

Exemption sheets will be given to students who qualify on May 16.  Students will take the exemption sheet around for their teachers to sign.  If the teacher does not sign the exemption sheet, the student is not exempt.  On Friday, May 17, students will return exemption sheets with a parent signature.  Parents/guardians must sign the exemption sheet.  Students who are exempt from tests are not required to attend school during the exempted test or exempted test review session.

Students who are not exempt are required to attend both the review session and semester exam.

Students cannot use discretionary days during Semester Exams.

Graduation ceremony behavior
Graduation ceremony or Commencement is a dignified, formal ceremony to mark the accomplishment of the entire senior class. Extra effort is made by the individual school and by parents to ensure that it is a memorable event. Students are expected to behave in a manner consistent with the formal nature of the ceremony. Appropriate graduation apparel shall be worn by all graduates. This includes graduation gown and mortar board (hat). Graduation apparel is fully decorated when received and no further decoration is allowed. Appropriate footwear and attire is expected, and any student who has a problem securing such, should speak to his/her principal, counselor, or senior sponsor. Beach balls, silly string, balloons, or any other item is not appropriate at a graduation. While graduation is a celebration, it is a dignified celebration and should be conducted as such. Students should encourage their parents and guests to refrain from any behavior that would distract from the enjoyment of all present. Parents and guests are not to enter onto the football field for any reason until after graduates are dismissed by administration – they will be asked to leave. It is appropriate to applaud for classmates who are part of the program; however, it is inappropriate to hoot and yell. Students who behave in an inappropriate manner and disrupt the graduation ceremony may receive the consequences including the withholding of their diploma.

**Chewing gum during any of these activities is not appropriate. No facial piercings, spikes, tunnels, or sunglasses – school dress code applies.

The following manner of dress is required for graduation:
Girls: Sunday dress, dress shoes – No high heels please because you may slip entering the field and you will have trouble walking on the field.
Boys: Long dress pants – Navy, black or khaki – No large pocket cargo pants and no jeans. No holes or frays (dress code applies) – Shirt must be collared button-up dress shirt and tie. No tennis shoes or flip-flops.

The Lady Jackets won the District 4AA tournament to advance to the Region. Senior Amy Langley and freshman Savannah Szozda advanced to the TSSAA State Golf Tournament.

For the boys, the team finished second in the Sub-District moving them into the District Tournament.

Senior Ballard Bailey and freshman Brady Davis qualified individually for the Region tournament.

Both teams ended the season with winning records.

They will be competing at the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) World Championships in St. Louis, MO April 24 – 27.

Any sponsorship by businesses and individuals would be very welcome.

The Fundamental Camp will be for girls going into the first grade through fifth grade. This four day camp will focus on all the aspects of the fundamentals of basketball.

Girls Grades 6-8

The Position Camp will focus on all fundamentals as well as specific positions (point, wing, post) and game strategy.

Both camps will be held at Roane County High School.

Scholarship Eligibility Requirements

• Minimum 2.5 GPA (some scholarships require a higher GPA)
• Resident of Tennessee
• Enrolled at Roane State
• Submission of the completed online Foundation Scholarship Application

General Information

• You may apply for all scholarships for which you meet criteria requirements.
• The Deadline for scholarships which are awarded at your high school Awards Night or Commencement services isApril 21, 2013. Deadline for all music scholarship applications is also April 21, 2013. The deadline for all other scholarship applications is May 31, 2013.
• Recipients will receive an award letter at their roanestate.edu email address listing requirements necessary to accept the scholarship and receive the scholarship funds.  A thank-you letter must be uploaded into your application file before any awards are granted.  Failure to submit the letter will result in cancellation of the scholarship.
• Scholarships are awarded annually with the award amounts credited to the student’s account each semester.
• Scholarships are not available for summer semester.
• Generally, students may receive only one Foundation scholarship per academic year.
• Students may only receive Foundation scholarships for a total of two years.
• Roane State Foundation scholarships are not awarded to students who have received a Bachelors Degree.
• Roane State Scholarship Committee has final authority regarding scholarship awards.  The applicants name and personal information is not revealed to the Scholarship
• Review Committee. The Roane State Scholarship Selection Committee may authorize or withdraw scholarships at any time.

Release of Information.  In applying for, and accepting, a scholarship from the Roane State Foundation each recipient agrees that his/her grade point average and other pertinent information may be released for publicity purposes or correspondence related to the College or Foundation.

Notification Instructions.  It is the responsibility of each applicant to check his/her Roane State RaiderNet email address for notification and acceptance of a Foundation scholarship. Failure to complete award requirements will result in loss of scholarship and/or repayment of funds, if applicable.
